MY ARTIST'S STATEMENT: In art it is very difficult to come to one’s own interior experience and to find an original way to express what one has to say.
We are conditioned by academia, inundated with
historical reference, put upon by commercial pressures, intimidated by fears of being misunderstood by our peers.
To speak with an authentic voice, to discover one’s authentic mark making is the hardest thing. It is a struggle, a challenge, a quest. It is my quest.
Although I have produced many paintings, which are
in collections across the country, and many graphic design and illustration projects such as books, logos, posters, videos, photo assignments and more, I am still exploring new creative
territory.
In order to tap into the current of generative energy that flows through me, I use Yoga, Meditation, Music, Dance, Contemplation and many other creativity techniques. I share these methods in classes & workshops.
My goal in painting is to liberate mark making from the "Morte Domain" clenches of the academics.....
......To find and follow my own inner impulse, which has been generated within me by my Invocation of the Muse, and to use the tools available to me to express artistically......whether in paint, video, photos, or mixed media.
Chanting; Invocation; Rhythm; Dance; Color Breathing; Candle, Bell and Drum Practice, are all a part of my preparatory rituals for painting.
See the Flickr Photostream for some of my photos of Capitan, New Mexico HERE.
....."It is the need to enter what we loosely call "the vision", to be one with the "IMAGO MUNDI".......that image of the world we each carry within us as possibility itself." Robert Creely
